Inner Child / Parts Work

You’re Not Broken. You’re Made of Parts.

Overview

What Is Inner Child & Parts Work and How Can It Help You?

Have you ever noticed that part of you desperately wants to change something — and another part of you resists it at every turn? That part of you craves closeness while another part shuts down the moment someone gets too near? That a critical voice in your head sounds nothing like how you actually want to speak to yourself? These aren’t contradictions. They’re parts distinct internal states, each with its own feelings, beliefs, and protective role, formed at different points in your life in response to what you needed to survive.

The Inner Critic

The part that judges, shames, and holds you to impossible standards. It often developed as a way to control your behavior.

The Protector

The part that works overtime to keep you from getting hurt again often by avoiding vulnerability.

The Achiever

The part that drives relentlessly, equates worth with productivity, and struggles to rest without guilt.

The Little One

The younger part that still holds the fear, sadness, or longing from childhood the one who needed more comfort, safety than they received.

The People-Pleaser

The part that learned early that keeping others happy, at your own expense, was the safest way to get love

The Numb One

The part that shuts feeling down entirely when it becomes too overwhelming the one that checks out.

Inner Child

My Value

When every part of you feels heard, the whole of you can finally begin to heal.

Most therapeutic approaches work with the conscious, adult part of you the one that can articulate what’s wrong, understand the pattern, and try to make changes. But the parts that are most reactive, most defended, and most stuck are often younger, pre-verbal, and not responsive to logic or reason. They need something different. They need to be met.

Ego state and inner child work allows us to do exactly that to approach these younger, more protective parts with curiosity and compassion rather than frustration or force. Integrated with EMDR for deeper processing and grounded in a warm, attuned therapeutic relationship, this approach creates the conditions for change at a level that most clients haven’t been able to access before. Not just understanding the pattern — but actually feeling different inside it.

01

Getting to Know Your Parts

I begin by mapping the internal landscape noticing which parts show up most often, what they feel like.

02

Building Relationships

Before I ask any part to change, I spend time understanding it, what it’s been carrying.

03

Processing the Wounds

Many parts are protecting a wound, a younger version of you who experienced something painful and formed a belief

04

Coming Home to Yourself

As parts heal and the wounds beneath them are processed, something shifts in the whole system.

Parts work is not a technique you apply it’s a way of relating to yourself that gradually shifts how you experience your own inner world. The process is exploratory, compassionate, and entirely tailored to what your own system needs. Nothing is forced. Everything is invited.
